Most travelers agree that scoring a good deal on your flights or hotel makes the trip even better.
When planning their trips for next year, travelers said flights and hotels are the most important cost factors, according to Skyscanner’s recently released Travel Trends Report 2025.
“While some US travelers have told us they plan to spend more on their holidays next year than in 2024, we’re also seeing them getting smarter when it comes to travel costs,” said Laura Lindsay, Skyscanner’s Global Travel Trends Expert. USA TODAY. This means being flexible on travel dates, destinations and flight times, she added.
For those planning their trips for 2025, there is good news. The report shows that flight prices for some top destinations have even fallen over the past year. Travelers can choose from beach locations, historic cities and outdoor adventure paradises – all without breaking the bank.

“Budget-friendly options can make a destination much more attractive to budget-conscious travelers,” Lindsay added. “Many of this year’s best-value destinations offer affordable outdoor attractions and excursions – from hiking the Pitons or relaxing on the pristine beaches of St. Lucia to snorkeling in Barbados or floating in the Great Salt Lake for which Salt Lake City is named.”

Barranquilla, Colombia
Located on the northern coast of Colombia, Barranquilla offers a warm climate all year round and an array of beaches. The city is known for the Carnival of Barranquilla, the largest carnival in the world and a UNESCO-recognized masterpiece of the oral and intangible heritage of humanity. Travelers can enjoy a 19% discount on airline tickets to the vibrant city.
Amsterdam, Netherlands
Prices for flights to the capital of the Netherlands have been reduced by 19% this year. Amsterdam attracts many travelers to its world-class museums such as the Anne Frank House, charming architecture and many coffee shops. Travelers can explore the city’s iconic canals via a bike or boat tour.
Salt Lake City, Utah
Travelers looking to enjoy Salt Lake City’s many outdoor adventures can enjoy airfare savings of 19%. Although the city is known as a winter ski destination, the mountains are also beautiful for hiking during the warmer months and for fall watching in the fall.
Charlotte, North Carolina
For a destination that combines small-town hospitality with a vibrant culture and food scene, Charlotte is worth a visit. It’s even more affordable now that airfares are down 22%. Known for its expansive green spaces and whitewater rafting, it also offers attractions such as the NASCAR Hall of Fame and the Charlotte Jazz Festival.
San Jose, California
San Jose is a short distance from San Francisco, but the city itself is worth staying for a few days. In addition to a vibrant food and cultural scene, the city offers a host of attractions, such as the Mission Santa Clara de Asis, founded in 1777, and the legendary Winchester Mystery House. The number of flights to the technology hub has fallen by 23% in the past year, Skyscanner found.
Fargo, North Dakota
Fargo was an early frontier town and is now a thriving travel destination with a host of eclectic small businesses and agricultural history. Filled with boutiques, breweries and restaurants, downtown is especially notable because it is within walking distance and easy to explore. The number of flights to Fargo has decreased by 24% in the past year.
Rabat, Morocco
With a beautiful coastal backdrop, Rabat has a rich history as one of the four imperial cities in Morocco with an array of monuments and historic buildings – and deserves the title of UNESCO World Heritage Site. Travelers ready to head abroad can take advantage of airfares down 24%, according to Skyscanner data.
Bridgetown, Barbados
Bridgetown, the largest city on the Caribbean island of Barbados, offers more than just beautiful beaches and warm weather for travelers looking to enjoy the 24% lower airfares there. (Although, who wouldn’t want to snorkel in marine parks and shipwrecks?) The island also features colorful colonial architecture and historic military buildings that have been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Castries, St. Lucia
Travelers ready to book their Caribbean getaway to idyllic St. Lucia can click the purchase button with confidence. The number of flights to the capital Castries has fallen by 25% in the past year. From soft white sand to striking black volcanic sand, St. Lucia offers almost every kind of beach you can imagine, plus waterfalls, ziplining, snorkeling, hot springs and more.
Nice, France
It’s never a bad idea to visit the south of France, especially now that the number of flights to Nice has fallen by 27% – the biggest drop Skyscanner has found. The laid-back city of Nice, located on the Mediterranean Sea, is home to beautiful beaches, a charming old town and, of course, fresh seafood.
