A 22-year-old Lakes Stevens man was arrested Thursday evening after being linked to a fatal shooting in Snohomish County.
Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a shooting call on the 600 block of S. Machias Road in the city of Snohomish at 7:45 p.m.
When officers arrived on the scene, a man in his 30s was found dead in the middle of the road.
The victim lived nearby and witnesses said he was slowing traffic to help a deer cross the road when he was shot.
Investigators have not released the man’s name, but a representative of the Washington State Department of Corrections identified the man as a corrections officer at the Monroe Correctional Complex who has worked there for the past year and a half.
After the shooting, the car fled north, according to police.
Police arrested a 22-year-old man and he was taken into custody at 3pm on Friday afternoon
He was booked on suspicion of second-degree murder.
The suspect’s vehicle, a silver 2001 Lexus GS3000, was seized as evidence.
Detectives also cleared the occupants of a Jeep Cherokee believed to be connected to Saturday’s shooting.
Officials say there is currently no threat to the community.
