26-year-old charged with driving under the influence after hitting and killing pedestrian near Florida Mall, FHP says

A 26-year-old woman was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after she struck and killed an unknown woman crossing the S. Orange Blossom Trail early Sunday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Just after 4 a.m., the 26-year-old, identified as Alyssa Winters, was driving her 2016 Lexus IS south on the S Orange Blossom Trail south of Skyview Drive in the center lane when an unidentified adult female walked into the road, not on a marked zebra crossing. and Winters hit her, FHP said.

The woman was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center where she died, FHP said.

Winters remained at the scene and was arrested for driving under the influence after troopers investigated the incident, FHP said.

The crash remains under investigation and the medical examiner’s office is still working to identify the woman who died, FHP said.
