An employee reportedly did not close the doors of the room where the animals were kept after feeding them.

“It is my understanding that the employee’s supervisor approached her immediately after the incident occurred and stated that she could be terminated if it was determined that there was no structural failure that led to the escape,” said facility CEO Greg Westergaard . “At that time I was informed that the employee left work and did not return.”

The facility and community have slowly recovered the monkeys in the three months since they escaped. WSB-TV reports this.

Now all the monkeys are back at the facility and appear to be in good health, Westergaard said. He thanked the community for their help and support.

“It was a true team and community effort,” Westergaard said.

Police, federal health officials and Alpha Genesis all said the monkeys posed no risk to public health.
