According to police, five people were killed and three were injured in an accident in Atlanta early Monday on westbound SR 316 to southbound Interstate 85 in Gwinnett County.
The accident occurred just before 4 a.m. local time when 911 calls were received reporting that a vehicle “ran over the wall of the elevated ramp and fell onto Interstate 85 south to Pleasant Hill Rd,” according to a press release. of Gwinnett County. Police.
County firefighters identified five dead at the scene, while three others were taken to local hospitals, the press release said.
The ramp from Highway 316 West to I-85 South was closed for several hours Monday and reopened just before 9 a.m. local time.
“The main I85 SB roadways are clear and reopened. The CD of both the I85 SB and SR316 WB remain closed and will be closed for an extended period of time while the Gwinnett County Police Accident Investigation Unit handles the investigation,” Gwinnett police officials said. on Facebook.
