Initial claims for unemployment benefits in Pennsylvania increased last week compared to the previous week, the U.S. Department of Labor said Thursday.
New claims for unemployment benefits, a measure of layoffs, rose to 11,098 in the week ending Oct. 12, up from 9,804 the week before, the Labor Department said.
U.S. unemployment claims fell to 241,000 last week, down 19,000 claims from 260,000 the week before on a seasonally adjusted basis.
Nebraska saw the largest percentage increase in weekly claims, with claims increasing 91.0%. The percentage of new claims was the highest in the Virgin Islands: the number of claims fell by 53.1%.
