November 3 – The U.S. Bureau of Land Management sells firewood permits for personal use.
The permits, which cost between $5 and $20 per cord, are available online and in person at the agency’s field offices in Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Socorro, Farmington, Taos and Las Cruces.
Permit holders may cut off dead piñon and juniper; Cutting down living trees and other types of trees remains prohibited.
To access firewood area maps, visit blm.gov/maps/frequently-requested/new-mexico.
Permits for the Taos, Farmington and Las Cruces field offices are available online at forestproducts.blm.gov. Online sales require payment by credit or debit card and access to a printer to print permits, maps, instructions and shipping labels.
