Gusty winds are blowing across the Tri-Cities region. Then come the cold temperatures

The National Weather Service is predicting a windy Monday for most of Southeast Washington.

It has issued a wind advisory for the Tri-Cities from 1pm Monday to 7am Tuesday.

Sustained winds of 10 to 26 km/h are forecast for the afternoon, increasing to 14 to 27 km/h on Tuesday morning.

Wind gusts up to 30 miles per hour are possible in the Tri-Cities, with stronger gusts at higher elevations. Just outside Kennewick near Interstate 82 and Highway 395, wind gusts up to 40 mph are forecast.

A 50% chance of rain is forecast ahead of the wind advisory, with less than a tenth of an inch expected.

As the storm clears the Tri-Cities, the forecast overnight low of 41 will drop below freezing Monday night to 30 on Tuesday night.

Highs are forecast for Monday and Tuesday, dropping to the high 40s under mostly sunny skies Wednesday through Friday.

Travelers crossing Washington’s East Cascade Mountains can expect snow. Total snow accumulation above 4,000 feet could reach 6 to 10 inches above 4,000 feet, according to the weather service.

A winter weather advisory is issued for Interstate 90 at Snoqualmie Pass from 4 a.m. Monday through 10 a.m. Tuesday with periods of rain, snow and a mix of rain and snow.

Wind gusts of up to 50 kilometers per hour can cause snow and reduce visibility. However, little snow accumulation is expected.
