HAWTHORN WOODS, Ill. (CBS) – Investigators were working late Monday to identify a person found dead in a burned-out home in the northern suburb of Hawthorn Woods.
The house on Rosewood Drive caught fire Saturday afternoon.
Several fire brigades had to be called to the scene to get the fire under control.
The Lake Zurich Fire Department said it returned to the scene Sunday evening and found a body among the rubble.
The body was taken by the Lake County, Illinois Coroner’s Office, where investigators were to conduct an autopsy and determine the identity of the person.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office said Tuesday afternoon that the victim is believed to be a family member who did not live at the home. The body has not yet been identified, pending further investigation, including a dental comparison. An autopsy on Tuesday was awaiting the results of toxicology tests, including carbon monoxide levels.
