CT man who allegedly fled traffic stop in Granby arrested in Massachusetts

A man who allegedly fled a traffic stop in Granby on Monday has been arrested in Massachusetts.

According to Granby Police, an officer initiated the motor vehicle stop after receiving a report of a motorist not staying in his lane on Hartford Avenue at 9:49 p.m.

A responding officer spotted the driver and confirmed the vehicle crossed the yellow center lines, police said.

The driver initially complied and stopped, but when the officer got out of his cruiser to approach the car, the motorist allegedly fled the scene, according to police. The motorist was later found in Southwick, Massachusetts with the assistance of Southwick police, police said.

The driver was identified as 49-year-old Ricky Lynn Sweeney of Granby, according to police. He was arrested and charged with engaging police in pursuit, obstructing an officer and failure to maintain proper lane.
