Norway plans to increase its aid to Ukraine to at least 35 billion Norwegian krone ($3.2 billion) by 2025, the government announced Thursday after a parliamentary meeting.
Of this amount, 22.5 billion kroner will be used for military support, while 12.5 billion kroner will be earmarked for humanitarian and civilian aid.
Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre told the NTB news agency that the decision sends an important signal to Ukraine and those attacking the country.
The government had initially allocated 15 billion crowns in the 2025 state budget for support to Ukraine. The opposition considered this amount far too low and the leading parties provisionally agreed earlier this week on 30 billion, which would be discussed during today’s meeting.
The money is to be delivered through the Nansen support programme, the way Norway has provided all its long-term support to Ukraine.
The program will also be extended for another three years until 2030. The government expects that the Nansen program will facilitate the transfer of a total of at least 154.5 billion kroner.
