German Chancellor Scholz arrives in Kiev for talks with Zelensky

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz arrived in Kiev for the first time in two and a half years for talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in a visit that was not previously announced for security reasons.

Upon arrival, the German leader announced further arms deliveries worth 650 million euros for the defense of Ukraine against Russia at the end of December.

“I want to make it clear here that Germany will remain the strongest supporter of Ukraine in Europe,” said Scholz, who traveled to the Ukrainian capital on a special train.

Scholz’s last visit to the country was in June 2020.
