Leonard Williams on Aaron Rodgers: He doesn’t want to have big hits anymore

We spoke with Seahawks defensive lineman Leonard Williams after Seattle’s win over the Jets on Sunday. During the conversation, he was very diplomatic about Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers. (More to come about the things he said.)

Before the call, and during his postgame press conference, Williams wasn’t as diplomatic when talking about missing a wide-open receiver from Rodgers one play before Williams intercepted a Rodgers pass and returned it 92 yards for a touchdown.

I think he’s an older man‘, said Williams, ‘doesn’t want to accept such big hits anymore. So when you feel the guy coming at him at full speed, he throws it away and dives. We had him in a situation where [coach] Mike [Macdonald] I made a great call and it paid off.”

Rodgers had another long day and the Jets fell to 3-9 for the season. After the game, coach Jeff Ulbrich would not promise unequivocally that Rodgers would keep the starting job.

Whether he stays put or not, the Jets will sink in the standings and have no more chances to turn the tide. Even if they take the lead, 8-9 will likely do nothing but ruin their draft position for April.
