Dog licenses now on sale

December 6 – Dog licenses are now on sale through January 31 through the Lawrence County Animal Shelter. Licensing your dog is an essential responsibility for pet owners as it ensures lost pets can be identified and returned home.

Ohio law requirement

According to Ohio Revised Code (ORC) 955.01, all dog owners, keepers or caretakers of dogs over three months old must register their dogs with the Lawrence County Auditor annually between December 1 and January 31.

Dog license costs 2025:

—One-year license: $16.

—Licenses purchased after January 31 will be subject to a $16 late fee per tag.

—One-year license (spayed/neutered dog): $12.

—Documentation from a veterinarian is required. Licenses purchased after January 31 will be subject to a $12 late fee per tag.

—Three-year license: $48 (available online and accounting firm only).

—Permanent license: $160 (available online and accounting firm only).

—If you do not renew your dog permit by February 1, the cost of the permit will be doubled and you may also face fines for having an unlicensed dog.
