LEXINGTON – A Lexington elementary school employee is on leave after admitting to leaving a gun in a parked car on campus.

It happened Wednesday morning at Estabrook Elementary School. Police say a passerby saw the gun in a holster on the front seat of the car.

School staff identified the staff member who owned the car and he showed a valid Massachusetts license to carry firearms and admitted to leaving the gun on the car seat. The police confiscated the weapon and the staff member’s permit.

The employee is charged with unlawful storage of a firearm and carrying a firearm on school grounds.

Police said no threats were made during the incident and no students or staff were in immediate danger.
