ST. CHARLES, Ill. (CBS) — A man was sentenced to 49 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, accused of sexually assaulting a child multiple times since 2021.

In October, a jury convicted 36-year-old Ernesto Velasquez-Jimenez of three counts of predatory criminal sexual abuse of a child and seven counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a child.

According to the Kane County Prosecutor’s Office, Velasquez-Jimenez sexually assaulted the victim, who was under the age of 13, on multiple dates, both above and below clothing, between October 1, 2021 and June 3, 2023. Evidence was also presented that he sexually assaulted the victim’s sister in DuPage County.

In addition to Velasquez-Jimenez’s sentence, he must register as a sex offender for life under the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.
