Annual eCycles Day is November 2 for residents of the City of Hagerstown

The City of Hagerstown’s annual eCycles Day is Saturday, November 2 for city residents.

The city has contracted with Waste Management Inc. to provide city residents with a free and easy option to properly dispose of unwanted electronic devices in homes and securely destroy unnecessary personal documents.

The event will be held rain or shine at Fairgrounds Park, 351 N. Cleveland Ave., in the softball field parking lots from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., or until the trucks are full.

Acceptable items for electronics recycling include:

  • Computers

  • CPUs

  • Monitors

  • Printers

  • Keyboards

  • Scanners

  • Copiers

  • Fax machines

  • Televisions

  • VCRs

  • Stereos

  • Mobile phones

  • Phones for home and office

  • Consumer electronics

Items that will not be accepted include:

  • Microwaves

  • Smoke detectors and alarms

  • Thermostats

  • Dehumidifiers

  • Any unit containing sludge or liquids

  • Non-decontaminated medical equipment

  • Major appliances

  • Commercial bulk amounts

Document destruction will be safe and green. All documents are transported directly from the event to the paper shredding facility in a secure truck.

At the shredding facility, documents are shredded, baled and sent to a paper recycling facility where the ink will be removed, the paper will be converted into pulp and ultimately used to make new paper or fiber products.

All participants are asked to remain in their vehicles while staff remove their belongings.

Recyclables should be placed in the trunk (or the back of SUVs) so they can be removed safely.

Hagerstown eCycles Day is for residents of the City of Hagerstown only. Proof of residency is required.
