MINNEAPOLIS— For some it is another party. For others it is a cruel trick. But the falling snow plays a huge role in Halloween celebrations.
“It’s part of Minnesota. Just go with it,” said Lydia Langfield of Rosemount.
Some families decided to turn around and go to the Mall of America, where an indoor party was being held.
“That’s what it’s all about: seeing the smiles on the faces of our guests, the faces of our families, that’s what we do this for,” said Chris Grap of the Mall of America.
The flakes clearly didn’t stop the fun, but did send some commuters looking for a different kind of treat, with the State Patrol reporting more than 200 accidents once the snow started.
“Two days ago I was playing pickleball – now we have snow,” said Susan Hinderscheid.
For Rico Williams, Thursday’s snowfall was no match for the Halloween snowstorm of 1991.
“We woke up and couldn’t even open the door because there was so much snow that year,” Williams said.
While the flakes didn’t stop snacking, they did slow down commuter traffic, but they sped up business at Turbo Tim’s.
“We definitely see spikes in cases and calls when snow falls,” said Taylor Besser, training manager for Turbo Tim.
Besser says the majority of calls were for tire and brake checks.
“It’s good to have your car checked before winter,” Besser said. “We’ll test people’s batteries and make sure the belts don’t squeak.”
He wants people to know that preparation can keep you from slipping and save you money.
