The Los Angeles Chargers offense won’t be at full strength on Sunday as star running back Austin Ekeler has been ruled out for the game against the Tennessee Titans. Ekeler injured his ankle in the season opener against the Miami Dolphins and was not present at practice on Friday.
Over the past two seasons, he has collected a total of 38 touchdowns. The 28-year-old led the NFL with 18 touchdowns last season, setting career highs in rushing yards (915), receptions (107) and receiving yards (722). His 20 touchdowns in 2021 also led the NFL. His absence has the potential to be felt even more Sunday, as Tennessee had the league’s best defense last year.
The Chargers could be without another key player in the hunt for their first win of the season, with defensive end Joey Bosa listed as questionable. Bosa was at training on Friday, but did not fully participate. He was limited last season by a groin injury that required surgery, and the hope was he could pick up where he left off. He posted double-digit scoring seasons in four of his first six years in the league.
