CANNON FALLS, Minn. – Authorities have postponed the search for a southern Minnesota man who disappeared Monday night due to extreme weather.

The 60-year-old man was walking his dog in the woods near the 300 block of Larkspur Lane in Cannon Falls, city police said. He was reported missing around 8:11 p.m

Several agencies joined the search and authorities followed the man’s footprints on the ground and through the air, but they did not find him. The search was called off at 2:20 a.m., but authorities resumed the search at 9 a.m. on Tuesday before adjourning later in the evening. Due to high winds and falling temperatures, the search will not continue until Thursday at the earliest.

“The Cannon Falls Police Department is asking people not to conduct a search on their own as doing so will only hinder official search efforts,” the department said.

Residents living in areas adjacent to the river in Cannon Falls are asked to check any sheds, outbuildings or low-hanging foliage. Hunters with trail cameras in the area are also encouraged to check if they have any photos or videos that could help with the investigation.

Authorities have not identified or described the missing man.
