Baker County distributes sandbags in preparation for Tropical Storm Debby

While storm preparations are in full swing in northeast Florida, residents in Baker County are keeping a close eye on the potential for flooding.

On Saturday, the sheriff and emergency services distributed sandbags in Macclenny.

By 5:30 p.m., 1,500 sandbags had been distributed, with at least 3,000 remaining.

15 inmates from the Baker County Detention Center help distribute the sandbags.

Neighbors told Action News Jax’s Shanila Kabir they are grateful the county is providing this opportunity.

Resident Lola Chandler says she has experienced flooding in her home before and these bags make a big difference in preventing water from entering her garage.

Each car is limited to six bags, but that could change depending on the severity of the storm. If needed, the sheriff’s office said, they will deliver nags to homes.

On Saturdays you can collect sandbags at City Yard until 7pm and on Sundays from 1pm to 5pm.
