BOSTON – A day later unveiling of the official franchise nameBoston’s new National Women’s Soccer League team is apologizing for the “Too Many Balls” promotional campaign that accompanied the rollout.

The BOS Nation Football Club shared the one-minute video on social media on Tuesday with a cameo from the great New England Patriots Tom Brady.

Football video ‘Too Many Balls’ criticized on social media

The video states that Boston is a city of champions, with a legacy full of “trophies, banners, rings and balls.”

“Boston loves balls, but maybe there are too many balls in this city,” a narrator says before the new women’s team is introduced.

“We are BOS Nation, where anything is possible. No balls needed,” the video says.

Women’s football fans branded the campaign on social media as ‘bizarre’ and inappropriate. There was also criticism that the message was offensive to the transgender community.

‘At a time when there are trans women excluded from sports at every level, is “too many balls” really the slogan you want to go with here?” wrote journalist Frankie de la Cretaz on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“We fully acknowledge that the content of the campaign did not reflect the safe and welcoming environment we seek to create for all, and we apologize to the LGBTQ+ community and especially the trans community for any pain we have caused,” the team said.

The team added that it is “proud to be part of the most inclusive sports league in the world” and thanked those who “called on us to do better.”
