A man wanted by Boulder police in a sexual assault case was arrested last month by the Randolph Sheriff’s Office in Asheboro, North Carolina.
Nehemias Hernandez-Lopez, 27, was arrested Aug. 25 on suspicion of assaulting a helpless victim, court records show.
Hernandez-Lopez is accused of sexually assaulting a woman in March 2017.
The case was reported to the Boulder Police Department in May 2023. According to Boulder police spokesman Dionne Waugh, Hernandez-Lopez was visiting Boulder from abroad during the time of the incident.
According to Waugh, Hernandez knew the said victim.
Waugh said that after a detailed and lengthy investigation, including work in Boulder and North Carolina, detectives obtained a warrant for the suspect’s arrest in August.
“We are grateful to our law enforcement partners at the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance with this arrest,” Waugh wrote in an email.
