In a recent interview I spoke to People magazine: Saturday evening live cast member Bowen Yang said he and his co-stars watched a final cut Bad together, leaving them ‘in ruins’.
He told the magazine that he first watched the finished film with him SNL cohorts at a special screening earlier this year, the week that his Bad co-star Ariana Grande hosted the show.
“We were all in shambles by the end,” Yang said in the interview. “Sarah Sherman was sobbing and she said, ‘I didn’t expect to love it so much.’ It will get you. It flattens every demographic. Everyone is overwhelmed no matter what they get into, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a movie that has this universal impact. ”

He was initially unsure whether he would attend the early screening. ‘I was so determined not to go [to the screening]because I was like, I think I need to see this for the first time with other friends who aren’t professionally involved, and I just need to have a pure experience,” he told People.
He finally decided to go after remembering a special trip to New York City with his parents when he was 13 and the original Broadway show had just begun its historic run. He says his family couldn’t afford tickets to the show, but he begged his parents to “go to the Gershwin so I could touch the glass and look into the lobby.” That same trip, he and his family went to 30 Rock at NBC and did the studio tour, where he sat in the seats Saturday evening LIVE. This moving anecdote finally convinced him to attend and he says he shared this moment with his “SNL family” was “so special.”
