Bullet found in the school gym. What happened next

HULL – A bullet has been found in a school gym.

According to police, a K-7 Lillian M. Jacobs School student found the live .40-caliber bullet during a sports practice at the gym around 7:30 PM on Thursday, November 14. He showed it to his coach, who then reported it to the police.

The discovery of the bullet prompted a search of the school by police and an investigation that included a state police K-9 unit and a review of the school’s surveillance video.

Hull Police said there is no threat to the public or students.

A Hull police officer swept the gym to see if there was an active threat to people in the school at the time. Massachusetts State Police then conducted a full sweep of the building using a K-9 unit specifically trained in detecting firearms and ammunition. The search did not turn up any other ammunition or weapons, police said.

Although police said there does not appear to be a safety risk to the school’s students or staff, they planned to have a larger presence there Friday, out of what they described as an abundance of caution.
