Officials say Cal Fire crews have stopped the progress of a roughly 30-acre blaze that was burning early Thursday night two miles west of Petaluma.

The Cal Fire LNU X account first posted about the incident around 4:30 p.m. Thursday. Air and ground crews responded to the so-called Two Fire blaze near Bodega Ave. and Middle 2 Rock Rd.

Officials initially reported the fire had burned about 30 acres and was spreading at a moderate rate through the grass.

Around 5 p.m., Cal Fire reported the fire was no longer contained.

The update on X noted that “grass is dry and susceptible to ignition,” and that this was the second wildfire to ignite in the same area in Sonoma County, near Petaluma, since Wednesday.

The The Gulch fire was reported shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday after it broke out near Old Adobe Road and Tunzi Lane in Lakeville, east of Petaluma. That fire was also 95% contained, but only after it destroyed a home and damaged two outbuildings.

Emergency services will remain at the fire site until the evening.
