Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the Barcelona Open with an injury.

The Wimbledon champion and number three in the world won the title the past two years, but was struggling with a right forearm problem.

The 20-year-old Alcaraz had also withdrawn from this week’s Monte Carlo Masters, where he was due to play Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime on Wednesday.

The Barcelona Open started on Saturday with the qualifying rounds and is ready for the comeback of Rafael Nadal.

Alcaraz was a two-time defending champion at the Barcelona Open, winning the trophy in 2022 and 2023.

A statement from the tournament on social media said: “The player has suffered from the injury suffered in Monte Carlo and did not feel good during his training on Sunday. I wish you a speedy recovery and we hope to see you again next year. ” .”

But Nadal, the 22-time Grand Slam champion, is ready for his return to Barcelona after also withdrawing from Monte Carlo.

A hip injury has ruled the 37-year-old out since January, but the Spaniard was drawn against Italian Flavio Cobolli on Monday as he looks to win the tournament for the 13th time.
