The New York Rangers officially traded Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for defenseman Urho Veelanainen and a 2025 fourth-round pick.
It was also confirmed that the Rangers will not keep any of Trouba’s salary and his $8 million cap hit.
Rangers general manager Chris Drury released a statement following the completion of this transaction.
“I would like to sincerely thank Jacob for his contributions to the Rangers and our community,” said Drury. “Jacob has been an example on and off the ice for our organization and has played a major role in our success in recent years.
“Since coming to New York five years ago and serving as captain for the past three seasons, he has shown perseverance, toughness and tremendous leadership and we cannot thank Jacob enough for everything he has done for the Rangers.”
On the other side of the trade, Anaheim adds an experienced player to a young locker room, which Ducks General Manager Pat Verbeek is pleased with.
“Jacob is a highly respected player in this league whose character and leadership skills on and off the ice are unparalleled,” said Pat Verbeek. “We believe Jacob has many years left in this league and hope he will be a big part of our future success.
“It’s rare that you can acquire a player of Jacob’s experience, stature and skill. On the ice, he participates in every shift, sets a good example and is present on the blue line every night.”
Through 24 games this season, the 30-year-old defenseman has recorded six assists and six points while averaging 20:00 minutes per game.
Veelanainen was selected in the first round by the Boston Bruins at the 2017 NHL Draft. He has been with the Ducks since being traded by Boston in 2022.
The 25-year-old defenseman had one assist in five games with the Ducks this season while averaging 13:36 minutes.
