A Wichita County grand jury has indicted a former church camp employee on charges of indecency with a child.
The panel charged Nathan Lee McDonald of Wichita Falls on Wednesday, December 4.
McDonald, 44, was released Monday from the Wichita County Jail on $100,000 bail, according to online jail records.
Anyone charged with a crime is presumed innocent until convicted beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
A church camp worker has been charged with sex charges filed by a 16-year-old.
The complaint alleges that McDonald had sexual contact with a child under the age of 17.
According to affidavits filed in the case, McDonald was the assistant director of the Chaparral Baptist Assembly Camp in Iowa Park when he was jailed on a charge of indecency with a child by sexual contact.
An affidavit of probable cause alleged that a girl cried out about being fondled on her clothing when she was 16 years old and working at the camp in the summer of 2023. The statement claimed that another staff member noticed “flirtatious behavior” between McDonald and the girl.
A wiretapped phone call showed McDonald apologizing to the girl and saying, “I know you trusted me and I betrayed that trust,” according to the allegations in the affidavit.
McDonald was arrested on February 21 on the charge. He posted $100,000 bail and was released the next day.
In Texas, indecency with a child by sexual contact is a second-degree felony, and a conviction carries a prison sentence of up to 20 years.
