Your weekend will start off mild with scattered rain showers, but you should plan and prepare for snow this weekend, followed by an arctic blast with the coldest air since 2018.

We’ll be tracking another system on Saturday with showers throughout the day. Highs will reach the low 40s.

Cold air flows in behind this system, creating an interesting setup for Sunday.

Another disturbance will move through the Deep South into the Tennessee Valley and off the Carolina coast on Sunday as a coastal storm. The route will then travel north from the Jersey Shore, giving a good chance for snow showers mid-morning into early evening on Sunday. Significant accumulations are likely. Can range from a few inches to over half a foot depending on the last number.

Some streaks of heavy snow showers up to an inch per hour will develop across the area. Thunderstorms may occur.

Travel will be difficult on Sunday as roads are covered in snow in some places. Plan flight cancellations and train delays.

For Monday, MLK Day winds will increase and temperatures will begin to drop. At least the sun is returning. Temperatures will be frigid in the teens to start the day, only reaching the mid-20s.

Monday evening we will drop into the single digits in the city and near or below zero in an area outside the city. Tuesday and Wednesday will only see highs in the mid-teens, with lows across the region between -2 and 9 degrees.

Wind chills drop to -10 to -20 at night and they feel between 0 and 10 during the day.
