The big cold has arrived in the Philadelphia region. Friday morning will start in the mid twenties under clear skies.
Make sure you have these layers when you go outside. Fortunately, the wind won’t be that strong, but even the slightest breeze will drop the temperature significantly.
Daytime highs only reach the mid-30s, which makes it feel like the heart of winter: our average high temperature in mid-January is still 41 degrees. The cold will continue into the weekend with some very cold mornings. We will start both Friday and Saturday in the 20s with some spots in the teens on Saturday morning.

The weekend looks to be mixed with mostly sunny skies and cold conditions on Saturday and more cloudy skies on Sunday. Highs will be in the 40s on Saturday and 50 on Sunday. Rain looks likely to return Sunday night and we will transition to a warmer and wetter pattern early next week, with rain both Monday and Tuesday and highs in the 50s.
Right now, Eagles game looks dry but chilly with temperatures in the 40s. It’s possible the weather system accelerates, but as of now, late afternoon game time looks to be dry.
Speaking of drought: the latest drought monitor was released on Thursday and a large part of our area is still experiencing an extreme drought, a level of 4 out of 5.
Wednesday’s rainfall is not taken into account, but the 1 to 2 inches we receive will only make a dent.
To get us out of the current drought over a one-month period, we currently need between 30 and 40 centimeters of rain. If we had that much, we would unfortunately experience widespread flooding, so it’s safe to say that our extreme conditions could continue well into 2025. It will take a steady rainstorm over the course of a few months to get us to safety. back to normal conditions.
