The 2024 college football regular season is over and that means bowl season is just around the corner. The Conference Championship weekend will solidify the final slate of postseason games that will take place over the next month and a half, culminating in the national title game.

The twelve teams in the 2024-25 College Football Playoff will be announced on Sunday, December 8, following the conclusion of conference championship weekend. More details here.
How many bowl games are there?
There are a total of 47 bowl games in the 2024-2025 season, including four college football first-round playoff games, four quarterfinals, two semifinals and the national championship on Monday, January 20.
How many games does a college team have to win to be bowl eligible?
Generally, teams must win six or more regular season games to be bowl eligible, although there are exceptions if more teams are needed to fill out the slate of games. The most common exception is five-win teams that are ranked by their Academic Progress Rates (APRs). APR tracks student-athletes’ chances of graduating.
Which bowl games are playoff games in 2024-2025?
All former New Year’s Six bowls will be used for this year’s College Football Playoff for the new 12-team playoff. The quarterfinals will be played on December 31 and January 1 in the Fiesta Bowl, Peach Bowl, Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl. The semi-finals will be played in the Orange Bowl and Cotton Bowl on January 9 and 10 respectively. These six major bowls will rotate the CFP quarterfinals and semifinals indefinitely.
