Your local Costco location may be short-staffed or completely closed starting next month as the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, which represents 13,000 Costco employees nationwide, is threatening a work stoppage starting within days.

Will Costco workers go on strike?
Costco Teamsters have voted in favor of a strike that will begin after the current contract expires on Friday, January 31.
This means that Costco workers in New Jersey and the entire Mid-Atlantic region could strike as early as Saturday, February 1.
Costco Teamsters have authorized a stroke to begin on Saturday, February 1.
“Our members have spoken loud and clear: Costco must deliver a fair contract or they will be held accountable,” Teamsters General Manager Sean M. O’Brien said in statements in the press release. “From day one, we have told Costco that our members will not work a day after January 31 without a historic, industry-leading agreement.
“Costco’s greedy managers have less than two weeks to do the right thing.”
The Teamsters union also posted its intentions to strike in a post on social media platform X:
Costco has not yet publicly responded to the strike threat.

If Costco workers go on strike on February 1, it will affect the string of 21 Costco locations in New Jersey.
