Court documents detail the scene of the fatal stabbing in Haledon

Police documents describe a chaotic scene on the streets of Haledon in the aftermath of a fatal stabbing earlier this week that led to a murder charge.

Jamilette Huaranga, 21, allegedly stabbed a 19-year-old man with a knife during an argument near her home on Lee Avenue on Wednesday, prosecutors said. The victim had multiple stab wounds to his shoulder and thigh, according to a statement of probable cause. The man, identified only by initials in the affidavit, died of his injuries at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center.

While covered in blood, Huaranga waved down a nearby driver and told him she had stabbed her boyfriend and to call 911, the affidavit said. A neighbor overheard and let Huaranga use his phone to call her mother. During that conversation, he heard Huaranga tell her she was going to jail, according to the affidavit.

Surveillance footage showed the victim exiting the Lee Avenue home around the time of the murder to move an SUV to the end of the driveway, the affidavit said. Huaranga is also seen walking out with a large kitchen knife before the victim goes back inside, according to the affidavit, and she is later seen again with the knife and the dark mark on her pants.

In addition to first-degree murder, Huaranga was charged with unlawful possession of weapons and possession of weapons for unlawful purposes.
