Critics denounce Pence’s “delusions” of the GOP’s interim results

Former Vice President Mike Pence rejected former President Donald Trump’s argument that the Supreme Court, which overturned Roe v. Wade, contributed to the Republican party’s disappointing performance in last year’s midterm elections.

“The former president was actually suggesting that we lost the election mid-election because we overturned Roe v. Wade, I don’t believe that for a second,” Pence told Newsmax’s Rob Schmitt Thursday.

“I think if you stand up for the right to life, with principles and compassion and show a willingness to put our arms not only around the unborn, but also around newborns, around women in crisis pregnancies, we can continue to win hearts and minds. ”

Pence’s comments come months after Trump declared the Republican party’s performance in last year’s election was not his fault, while pointing out that the “abortion issue” was “badly handled” by Republicans.

Half of voters in one poll said SCOTUS destroying Roe motivated them to vote last year, while a recent NBC News report pointed to “big wins” for abortion rights advocates in seven states since June 2022 .

The former vice president has strongly opposed abortion during his 2024 campaign, calling on fellow GOP candidates to support a 15-week federal ban on abortion.

His political advocacy group Advancing American Freedom, meanwhile, has gone further by supporting federal legislation that bans abortion “after about six weeks” and “fixes fetal personality,” according to The New York Times.

Social media users on X (formerly Twitter) mocked Pence over his midterm elections, claiming that “he still denies.”
