(CBS DETROIT) – The Detroit Lions’ disappointing end to the season don’t just leave fans with a bad taste in their mouths.
For some planning trips to attend the Super Bowl in New Orleans, the early departure means they may have to reconsider how to spend that weekend. However, one fan who still plans to make the trip will proudly wear her Honolulu Blue.
Samantha Stonecipher received an invitation from the Lions to attend the 2024 Thanksgiving game after they noticed her unique style of philanthropy. Just before kickoff on Thanksgiving Day, the Lions surprised her with two tickets to Super Bowl LIX.
“I decided that for every interception I would donate the dollar amount of jersey numbers to the Lions’ Foundation. They found out and said, ‘This is really cool. We should do something really nice for her.'” Stonecipher said.
She says her spot in New Orleans is still safe, even though the Lions are out of the playoffs. Despite the heartbreaking end to their season, Stonecipher calls the experience a win-win.
“I’m going to have my blue hair and I have a whole bunch of jerseys that I plan on wearing, so I’m definitely going to represent the Lions from the moment I get on the plane until the moment I get home,” she said. . “Obviously disappointed that the season ended abruptly, but they did a great job and it’s such a memorable season. I don’t think me or any other Lions fan will forget it.”
