(CBS DETROIT) – The City of Detroit will soon begin accepting a second wave of applications for business licenses for marijuana.
The application period starts on August 1. City officials say licenses include pharmacies, micro-enterprises and consumption lounges.
Interested parties have until August 31 to submit applications. They will decide six to eight weeks after the deadline, according to the city.
In this wave, there are 30 licenses available for cannabis retailers, 10 licenses for micro-enterprises, and 10 licenses for consumption lounges.
The city says equity applicants will receive half of all permits.
“An applicant for equity is either an individual whose primary residence is in a disproportionately affected community, or an entity in which at least one or more such individuals own and control at least 51 percent,” city officials said.
In addition, once granted, licensees must obtain an operating license from the Cannabis Regulatory Agency.
The first recreation permits were approved in December 2022, with 33 companies having received a permit. Read more about the first wave of applications here.
