Dog Helps Save Golden Retriever Struggling in Port of Great Britain

A Golden Retriever who fell into the cold waters of a harbor on the Isle of Man in Britain is lucky to be alive, thanks to his canine companion who ‘called out’ for help. The Golden Retriever was in the company of another dog, a Newfoundland, when they fell into the water.

According to BBC News, the incident took place on Sunday, March 17 at Douglas Harbour. According to the news channel, the Newfoundland alerted a passerby to the Golden Retriever stranded in the cold water. It seems that the Newfoundlanders realized that their canine friend needed to be saved and therefore raised the alarm.

With the help of the Newfoundland, the passerby was able to spot the Golden Retriever in the water and, without wasting time, take action.

The man first called the Douglas Coastguard to report the incident before boarding a boat in the harbor so he could reach the Golden Retriever. In a life-saving move, the man held the puppy as he waited for the Coast Guard to arrive. Fortunately, the rescuers arrived in time and brought the puppy to safety.

A Douglas Coast Guard spokesperson praised the passerby for his quick thinking as it helped save the Golden Retriever from drowning or developing hypothermia. According to reports, the puppy had ‘started’ when Coast Guard rescuers arrived [to] moved with the current of the river into the harbor and began to submerge.

In a statement, the spokesperson shared: “We would like to thank the public for their quick action, which undoubtedly saved the life of a very lucky dog.”

Both the Newfoundland and Golden Retriever were taken to the Coast Guard station. Fortunately, authorities were able to locate the owner of the two puppies.

It is still unclear how the dog ended up in the water.
