Edwardsville man accused of assaulting 4-year-old boy

Feb. 29—EDWARDSVILLE — A man was indicted Thursday on charges that he attacked a 4-year-old boy who left bruises on his chest, back, buttocks and legs.

Jacob J. Puscavage IV, 33, of East Grove Street, Edwardsville, denied assaulting the boy during an interview with Luzerne Borough police, who investigated the allegations.

Puscavage was arraigned by Forty Fort District Judge David A. Barilla on charges of aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child, simple assault and intimidation. He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for failure to post $20,000 bail.

According to the criminal complaint:

Police in Luzerne Borough investigated a Child Line complaint alleging a 4-year-old boy was physically abused by Puscavage.

The boy was interviewed by a forensic interviewer from the Luzerne County Children’s Advocacy Center in Wilkes-Barre.

During the interview, the boy told forensic interviewer Puscavage to “hit him with a belt and shush, don’t tell anyone and don’t tell the police,” according to the complaint.

Medical examination of the boy showed that he had several bruises on his body.

Police said in the complaint that the boy’s biological mother alleged she left Puscavage in June 2023 due to ongoing physical and emotional abuse during their five-year relationship. She also revealed that Puscavage is in a “very bad mood,” according to the complaint.

Puscavage denied hitting the boy, the complaint said.

According to the complaint, the boy was taken into protective custody by Luzerne County Children and Youth Services.
