Elkhart Police investigate shooting with injuries, two suspects in custody

July 21 – ELKHART – Elkhart Police are investigating a shooting with injured people that occurred late Thursday night in East Bristol St.

At approximately 10:37 p.m., officers called to the 1800 block of Visscher St for a report of a shooting with injuries, an EPD press release said.

“Upon arrival, officers made contact with an 18-year-old man with apparent gunshot wound(s),” the release said. “A 24-year-old woman was also injured by broken glass during the incident. Victims reported that they were traveling in a vehicle when subjects in a second vehicle fired at them in the 1500 block area of ​​East Bristol St. Medici took the man and woman to hospital for evaluation and treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.”

While investigating this incident, a citizen in the area alerted an officer to report an abandoned vehicle and multiple subjects who allegedly walked out of that vehicle. Officers found an abandoned vehicle near E. Bristol St. and Bay St.

“During a search of his home, officers located two adult males in the 3300 block of Greenleaf Boulevard,” the release added.

Bryan Garcia Garcia, 25, was arrested at 5:10 p.m. Thursday by Elkhart County deputies on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated after police said he was involved in a two-vehicle accident. Garcia was incarcerated at the Elkhart County Jail.


Jack Fisher reported to Elkhart County deputies a theft at Jolly Roger’s Mini Storage, 12372 Lincolnway East, Mishawaka, that occurred after November 26, 2021. He said someone stole several tools and took a Harley Davidson motorcycle.


John Cocquyt reported to Elkhart County deputies at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday that he had seen his trailer stolen June 18 at 25020 Ash Road, Granger. The trailer was located and transported to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office Impound Lot for further investigation.
