Bill Ackman and Sean “Diddy” Combs are among the owners of Elon Musk’s X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter.
The platform has been forced to disclose its investors as part of a lawsuit filed by former employees seeking payment of arbitration fees incurred after Musk purchased the site.
X has previously argued that its investors’ information is confidential as a matter of “routine practice and policy,” but this week a federal judge in California ordered the list of the site’s owners to be made public.
The social media giant’s nearly 100 owners include some well-known names from both the investment world and the X-universe.
Previously, high-profile investors such as Fidelity had been linked to X, largely because the investment vehicle’s documents showed the company’s value had fallen by 72% since Musk took over.
However, the latest filing shows the investment giant is backing the platform, with nearly 30 separate Fidelity-linked entities holding stakes in the brand.
This week’s released documents also reveal the company’s lesser-known stakeholders.
The list seen by Fortune reveals that the Pershing Square Foundation has a stake in X. If the name sounds familiar, it’s because of its connection to Pershing Square Holdings, founded 20 years ago by billionaire investor Bill Ackman.
While the eponymous foundation is led by an independent senior leadership team, Ackman and his wife, Neri Oxman, are co-directors.
Ackman is an outspoken user of X, often using the platform to address other prominent individuals and entities. He has used it to debate Shark tank star Mark Cuban and raises questions about the leadership of his alma mater, Harvard University.
Elsewhere on the list of owners is Oracle founder Larry Ellison. The stake in X comes through the Lawrence J. Ellison Revocable Trust, whose principal holding, according to an SEC report filed in 2008 and led by Fortuneis to “administer the assets and estate of Mr. Ellison.”
The trust’s interests and Oracle’s are unrelated, the SEC document states.
Unlike Ackman, Ellison is not an avid user of the site. Despite having over 130,000 followers, Ellison has posted twice: once in 2012 and once in 2023.
Another notable name on the list is Sean Combs Capital.
While SEC documents do not show any similarities for the company, the company has previously been linked to American rapper Diddy, formerly known as Puff Daddy, who has founded a number of companies under his birth name.
Examples include the Sean Combs Foundation, Combs Investments and, more recently, the umbrella brand for his investments, Combs Global.
Musk has also attracted the attention of the royal family for his efforts, particularly HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud who is also on the list.
The Saudi prince has a fortune of nearly $19 billion, according to Forbes, and also has interests in luxury hotels such as Four Seasons and Savoy, and in other technology companies such as the taxi company Lyft.
It appears that despite his criticism of Musk’s leadership, Jack Dorsey still owns shares in the platform he founded through Jack Dorsey Remainder LLC.
The Twitter co-founder previously backed the Tesla CEO in his takeover of the company, but withdrew his support earlier this year, telling a member of rival social media platform Bluesky: “It all went wrong.”
Doubling of investments
Lesser-known names include organizations that not only have a stake in X as a company, but where senior leaders have also made contributions.
Take Danilo Kawasaki and Ross Gerber for example.
According to the complaint, the two are listed as individual investors in X, but they also have a stake in the company they run, the asset and investment management firm Gerber Kawasaki.
Elsewhere on the list are the Silicon Valley VCs you’d expect: 8VC, Andreessen Horowitz and Sequoia.
Of course, Musk himself is also on the list. Through the Elon Musk Revocable Trust, the founder of SpaceX is also listed.
Musk bought the site in 2022 for $44 billion, though the filing did not make clear how much of his investment compared to others. Since then, the company has been plagued by advertiser departures, mass layoffs and criticism of Musk’s strategy.
X did not respond immediately Fortune‘s request for comment.
