Energy Transfer unveils a .7 billion pipeline connecting the Permian Basin to key markets

Energy Transfer has made the final investment decision (FID) for a new intrastate natural gas pipeline connecting Permian Basin production to key markets and trading hubs.

The pipeline, previously called the Warrior Pipeline, has been renamed the Hugh Brinson Pipeline in recognition of Hugh Brinson.

This new project is expected to improve the flow of natural gas from the Permian Basin to critical demand centers.

The Hugh Brinson Pipeline will be built in two phases, with the first phase including approximately 400 miles of 42-inch pipeline capable of transporting 1.5 bcf/d.

This phase will extend from Waha to Maypearl, Texas, and is expected to be operational by the end of 2026.

It will connect to Energy Transfer’s extensive pipeline and storage network and provide a vital connection to the Dallas/Ft. Worth the Metroplex area.

In addition, the first phase includes construction of the Midland Lateral, a 42-mile, 36-inch pipeline designed to connect processing plants in Martin and Midland counties to the main pipeline.

The second phase, depending on shipper demand, could add compression to increase pipeline capacity to approximately 2.2 bcf/d and could be developed alongside phase one.

The combined cost of both phases is estimated at approximately $2.7 billion, supported by long-term fee-based commitments with investment-grade counterparties.

The Hugh Brinson Pipeline will integrate shippers into Energy Transfer’s existing intrastate natural gas pipeline network and facilitate access to key markets and trading hubs throughout Texas, including Carthage and Katy.

This strategic project is poised to strengthen Energy Transfer’s position as a leading provider of infrastructure supporting the growth of power plants and data centers in Texas.
