Erdoğan welcomes ceasefire in Lebanon and calls for end to war in Gaza

Turkey welcomes the ceasefire in Lebanon between Israel and the Hezbollah militia, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said in the capital Ankara on Wednesday.

Erdoğan separately called for an end to fighting in the Gaza Strip.

All parties, especially Israel, must now fulfill their obligations, Erdoğan said in a speech to his parliamentary group.

Turkey will continue to do everything it can to stop the killings in the Gaza Strip and ensure a lasting ceasefire, the Turkish president added.

A ceasefire brokered by the US and France came into effect at 4:00 am (02:00 GMT).

According to media reports, Israeli ground forces will withdraw from Lebanon within 60 days. Hezbollah will in turn withdraw from the Litani River, about 30 kilometers north of the border.
