(CBS DETROIT) — A now viral video has caused a stir on social media.
The video claimed that there was a “prong of lions in Detroit” on the loose. The startling footage shows a pride of lions wandering through a city, with a label stating it is from 2024 and located in the Motor City. The ominous video has been reshared and reposted multiple times on various platforms, and many users are wondering why the issue isn’t getting more attention.
“(The) 2024 season finale is getting crazy by the day,” one user said.
Another user wrote: “This gives me a Jumanji movie feeling.”
CBS News Detroit decided to call the experts to see if they could substantiate the claims.
Conservationists say there have been no reports of these big cats casually strolling the streets of Detroit. The Detroit River International Wildlife International Wildlife Refuge and the Detroit Zoo would like to remind the public that if, for any reason, something like this were to happen, you would know about it immediately.
Cybersecurity expert David Derigiotis says the video itself appears authentic, but points out that a sign in the background is not in English.
“While AI likely wasn’t used to create that video, you certainly can’t believe everything you see online,” Derigiotis told CBS News Detroit.
Moreover, people say that there are thirteen lions roaming around. The Detroit Lions are now 13-2.
Derigiotis says that while the video is real, it is a reminder that misinformation can spread in minutes. First, contact trusted news sources and research the material being posted.
“Be diligent and research everything you see online,” Derigiotis said.
