WARNING: This article contains spoilers for the first episode of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon
The fifth spin-off and sixth series in the popular Walking Dead franchise kicked off on Sunday evening with The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixonand judging by viewer reactions, this could be one of the strongest installations yet.
Featuring Norman Reedus reprising his role as Daryl Dixon – an actor and character who quickly became a fan favorite on The living Dead – the first of what will be six episodes began with Daryl washing up in France, with seemingly not much idea of how he got there.
From there, Daryl had his first encounter with French zombies and discovered that in some cases their blood and touch will burn a person like acid. They are called ‘burners’, as opposed to the generic term ‘walkers’ most often used in the franchise.
Daryl also started meeting some other people, including a convent full of nuns who are armed, trained, and dangerous (more on that in a minute). And in that monastery he came across a boy whom the nuns raised and whom they called ‘the cure for a sick world’. It’s Daryl’s duty this season to get him to a better place.
Daryl also crossed paths with some other not-so-trustworthy people who ultimately blamed Daryl for a death he didn’t cause and put a target on his back. And at the end of the episode we found out that Daryl had caused (or been blamed for) a mutiny on some sort of ship and gone overboard, hence why he washed up in a strange place. But that was put another target on his back by the people angry about the mutiny.
With many more questions to be answered and characters’ backstories to be unraveled, most viewers are already commenting on social media seem addicted And ready for morein addition to the one or two who disagreed with Daryl sporty suspenders for this iteration.
But the part of the episode where people see the most excited were the nuns, with their impressive use of medieval weapons and fearless attacks on their enemies.
The good news for viewers is that even though Daryl left the convent, he took two of the nuns, played by Clémence Poésy and Laïka Blanc-Francard, with him on his journey. So their story And their stupid ways are not done yet.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon airs on Sundays at 9 p.m AMC.
