Oct. 9—STERLING — The Illinois State Fire Marshal’s office has been called in to help determine the cause of a house fire in Galt that sent two people to the hospital.
Sterling and Rock Falls firefighters were called to the home in the 5400 block of Anne Street, in the rural fire district of Sterling, at 10 p.m. Tuesday. When they arrived, firefighters found heavy fire coming from multiple doors and windows and a power line in the driveway, according to a news release from the city of Sterling. Ten other fire departments were quickly called to the scene to help fight the blaze.
While firefighters were on their way, police were outside the home with a woman who lived in the house and had suffered smoke inhalation. She was taken to CGH Medical Center. A man who lives in the house and who was home at the time of the fire drove himself to the hospital. Their medical condition is unknown at this time, the news release said.
According to the press release, firefighters’ access to the burning building was hampered by the heavy damage and the number of objects in the home.
