Five people have been killed in the Israeli attack in Gaza

Five people were reportedly killed in an airstrike in Gaza that Israel said targeted someone who took part in the October 7 attacks.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said the target of the attack also worked at the charity World Central Kitchen (WCK).

Unconfirmed reports suggested that at least two others who died were also employed by the WCK. The charity has been contacted for comment.

According to the Palestinian state news agency Wafa, the attack took place on Saturday in the town of Khan Younis in southern Gaza.

Photos circulating on social media show a white sedan on the side of the road, partially burned out and with a collapsed roof.

Video filmed at a mortuary also showed a number of charred belongings – including a laptop, clothing and an identity badge – bearing the WCK logo.

Wafa reported that the five dead were all Palestinians, including the director of the WCK kitchens in Gaza.

In a statement, the IDF said it “hit a vehicle [carrying] a terrorist who took part in the murderous massacre of October 7″.

It said the man had taken part in an attack on the Nir Oz kibbutz, but added that it was “not possible to link the terrorist to a specific kidnapping attempt.”

“The terrorist was monitored by IDF intelligence for a period of time and was struck following credible information about his real-time location,” the report said.

It said the attack took place on an “unmarked civilian vehicle” whose movement “was not coordinated for the purpose of transporting aid.”

It then demanded “clarifications and an urgent investigation” from WCK and the international community “regarding the hiring of employees who participated in… terrorist activities against Israel.”

In April, seven WCK employees, including three British security staff, were killed in an Israeli attack on an aid convoy, leading to widespread condemnation and a temporary halt to the charity’s activities in Gaza.

The IDF later admitted that “serious mistakes” had been made and fired two senior officers.
