During Tuesday’s second period of the Calgary Flames and Anaheim Ducks game, the Flames lost 23-year-old forward Connor Zary for the remainder of the game after a knee-on-knee hit by Drew Helleson.
After a review, the officials assessed a five-minute major and game misconduct for kneeling.
However, the teams were playing four-on-four when Jakob Pelletier made a two-minute appeal while standing up for his fallen teammate.
With one second left on Pelletier’s penalty, the Ducks tied the game 1-1 with a goal from Alex Killorn.
There’s no word on the status of Zary’s injury, but Calgary will be without their third-leading scorer, who has 10 goals and 22 points in 39 games.
