In what appears to be a repeat of last year, gas prices in California are once again rising toward $6 per gallon.
The average price of a gallon of self-serve gasoline in Los Angeles County increased 4.8 cents today to $5.915 per day
after an increase of 13.6 cents. According to figures from AAA and the Oil Price Information Service, the average price has risen 52 times in the past 57 days, with an increase of 94.3 cents.
It is 39.2 cents more than a week ago, 62.5 cents more than a month ago and 48.6 cents more than a year ago. It has fallen 57.9 cents since rising to a record $6.494 on October 5, 2022.
The average price in Orange County rose 4.2 cents today to $5.912, a day after a 16.7 cent increase. It has risen 50 of the past 56 days. The average price is 41.5 cents more than a week ago, 67.3 cents more than a month ago and 52.1 cents more than a year ago. It has fallen 54.7 cents since rising to a record $6.459 on October 5.
Prices in Riverside County followed a similar trend, rising 5.4 cents to $5,746. It has increased steadily in 52 of the past 58 days. According to figures from AAA and the Oil Price Information Service, the average price is 35.9 cents more than a week ago, 57.2 cents more than a month ago and 43.7 cents more than a year ago. It has fallen 62.7 cents since rising to a record $6.373 on October 5.
The national average price rose half a cent to $3.881, the eleventh increase in a row. It’s 4.9 cents more than a week ago, eight-tenths of a cent more than a month ago and 20.3 cents more than a year ago. It has fallen $1,135 since rising to a record $5,016 on June 14, 2022.
“Oil costs are putting upward pressure on pump prices, but the increase is being tempered by much lower demand,” Andrew Gross, a national public relations manager for AAA, said last week. “The decline in the number of people refueling is typical: schools have started again, the days are getting shorter and the weather is becoming less pleasant. But the usual decline in pump prices is being hampered for the time being by these high oil costs.”
