General election preview on Tuesday

November 2 – Next Tuesday, November 5, is election day across the country. In Indiana, polls are open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m

Here’s a summary of which offices will be decided and who is running, as well as information on where to vote.

DECATUR COUNTY

There are 17 people seeking the office of President of the United States. They include (D) Kamala Harris, (L) Chase Oliver and (R) Donald Trump.

There are five people running for the US Senate. They include (D) Valerie McCray, (L) Andrew Horning and (R) Jim Banks.

There are four people running for governor of Indiana. They include (D) Jennifer McCormick, (L) Donald Rainwater and (R) Mike Braun.

Two people are seeking the Indiana Attorney General’s office: (D) Destiny Wells and (R) Todd Rokita.

The three people running for a U.S. Representative seat in the Ninth District are (D) Timothy Peck, (L) Russell Brooksbank and (R) Erin Houchins.

(R) Jean Leising is running unopposed for Senate District 42.

In the race for State Representative District 55 are (D) Victoria Martz and (R) Lindsay Patterson. (R) Alex Zimmerman is unopposed for State Representative District 67. And in the race for State Representative District 73 are (D) Hollie Payton and (R) Jennifer Meltzer.

(R) Timothy Day is running unopposed for Decatur County Circuit Court judge.

(R) Christy Smiley is running unopposed for Decatur County Auditor. (R) Diane Hoeing Wenning is unopposed for Decatur County Treasurer. (R) Andrew Scholle is unopposed for Decatur County Surveyor.

Both candidates for Decatur County Commissioner are also unopposed; they are (R) Brian Wenning in District 1 and (R) Gabriel Nobbe in District 3.

Candidates for Decatur County Council include (D) Melanie Hoffman, (R) Ernest Gauck, (R) Bill Metz and (R) Rick Nobbe.

There are three nonpartisan races for Decatur County School Board: David Henderson and Elizabeth Lecher Hochst in District B; Nicholas Anderson and Amber Smith in District C; and Dustin Barkdull and Alison Ortman in District D.

Decatur County residents whose voter registration status is valid can vote at any of the 11 voting centers that will be operational. They are:

For Ripley County Coroner, (R) Jason Bailey is unopposed.

For Ripley County Council, there are four candidates seeking at-large seats: (R) Stephanie Back, (R) Andrew Decker, (R) Peggy Ehlers and (D) Phillip Morgan.

For Ripley County Recorder, (R) Monica Hansen is unopposed.

For Ripley County Treasurer, (R) Lisa Vestal is unopposed.

There are two candidates running for Batesville Community School Board District 3: Jeremy Raver and Blaine Timonera.

There are four candidates running for the Jac-Cen-Del Community School Board: Jay Gayheart, Nancy Redelman, James Westerman and Cory Whalbring.

For the general school board of Milan, Anne Layden.

For the board of the community college of Milan City of Milan, Edward Amberger.

For South Ripley Community School Board District 3, Amy Miller; District 6, Rachel Lawhorn; District 7, Justin Sturgeon.

For Sunman Dearborn Community School Board District 2, Robert Davis; District 7James Graf.

(All school board races are nonpartisan.)

For Holton Clerk-Treasurer, (R) Angela Farrell is unopposed.

For Osgood Clerk-Treasurer, (R) Tamara Wilhoit is unopposed.

For Holton City Council at large, there are three Republican candidates: Paul Hughes, Phyllis Nighbert and Andrew Stratton.

For Osgood City Council at-large, (R) Christopher Kuhn.

For Sunman City Council 1, (R) Donald Foley; 2, (R) Carol Eckstein.

For Versailles City Council 1, (R) Renee Hart; 2, (R) Roxanne Meyer.

For Rush County Schools Board District 3, Jon (Kevin) Banks and Jeffrey Slaton; District 4, Matthew Jones; District 6, Jennifer Bowles, Paul Nicholls and Steve Sickbert; District 7, Jeffrey Edwards.

Voters in Rush County are required to cast their ballot on Election Day at the following designated polling places in the county:
